General information
The national project EXCELLENT UNIVERSITY, co-financed by the European Social Fund, is being implemented by the European Projects Office, a department of the Rectorate of the Comenius University in Bratislava.
With its focus and content, this project contributes to the rise of competitiveness of employees and students of the participating institutions, with the objective to enhance the quality of human resources and to narrow the gap between the region´s educational institutions and elite educational and innovative institutions in Europe.
The carrier of this project is the Comenius University in Bratislava, in partnership with the higher territorial unit Bratislava. It is being implemented on the territory of Bratislava self-governing region. This project creates a unique opportunity for institutions operating in the field of innovation and education within the whole Bratislava self-governing region, an opportunity to gain grounded up-to-date knowledge and experiences from abroad embracing the following three priority topics:
The respective institutions will participate by means of organizing lectures for the broad public, technical lectures, workshops and consultations, concerning innovative and modern areas within the given priority topics – so far unprecedented within the Bratislava self-governing region.
The above mentioned types of educational activities, which will run from September 2007 until September 2008, are designed for employees, students, secondary school and university graduates within the Bratislava self-governing region, as well as for the broad public.
Top experts from abroad, whose participation will be financed by the national project (travel and accommodation costs and remuneration for the experts), will provide cutting-edge findings concerning the given priority topics for students, pedagogical and research staff, as well as for the broad public.
Interested educational and research institutions within the Bratislava self-governing region have the opportunity to invite experts from abroad who are engaged in one of the three priority topics mentioned above.
To submit a proposal, it is required to fill out the appropriate form available on the website of Excellent University and to send it to our project team.
The offered education activities within the priority topic A mirrors current issues and trends in energetics, new and renewable energy sources, ecological aspects and ways of cooperation between the academic sphere and the world of practice.

- Perspectives of nuclear energy based on nuclear fission

- Ecological and political aspects of energy development
- Renewable energy sources
- Perspectives in physics and science in general which could possibly provide the answer to energetic problems faced by the humankind
- Photovoltaics – current challenges and transfer of new findings into practice
- Week of photovoltaics at the Comenius University in Bratislava
- New and renewable energy sources
- Preparation and innovation of study programs "New and renewable energy sources" and "Physics"
- Commercial use of physical knowledge in the field of new and renewable energy sources

For the priority topic B, three subject areas were defined, based on research projects at work centres within the Bratislava self-governing region (Comenius University, Slovak University of Technology and cooperating institutes of the Slovak Academy of Sciences). The aim is to improve the quality of education and research activities, as well as to bring about know-how of top experts in the given subject area.
Cooperating with international research centres and making personal contacts with top experts will enable to raise the quality of education, primarily with graduate and postgraduate studies (MA, PhD level). Consequently, it will contribute to the rise of competetiveness of graduates entering the labour market.
Scheduled education modules:
- New trends in research of microbial pathogens
- Modern research of cell structures and biomolecules and its application in biomedicine and biotechnologies
- Innovative approach to the development of new pharmaceuticals, in the diagnostics and treatment of selected diseases
- Transfer of innovations from the research field into practice and creating frames of infrustructure
- Other lecturers and educational subjects

Education activities within the priority topic C will be used for planning new or, according to the needs of practice innovated study programmes, while respecting the project´s aim (i.e. create a closer link between the study contents and the graduates´profile with needs of the Bratislava region´s development.)
Another significant dimension of the organized education activities is its focus on the transfer of new knowledge into socio-economic practice and its commercialisation for gaining new know-how for creating and operating institutions that are still missing within Bratislava self-governing region, as e.g. centres of excellency, scientific parks, scientific incubators etc.
